Working with Karl Lagerfield
Kroenig is one of photographer Karl Lagerfeld’s favourite models, and he uses Kroenig in many of his ads. The two met in 2003 in Biarritz, and since then, they often meet monthly to do photo shoots. One of Lagerfeld’s books of photos, in fact, is called Metamorphoses of an American and features nothing but photos of Kroenig. The book shows his development as a model and as a person over the years.
In 2004, Lagerfield photographed Kroenig for Fendi, and the next year, Lagerfield used over 500 images of the model in his photography show. In February of 2008, Kroenig and Australian model Gemma Ward appeared together in black and white ads for Lagerfeld’s clothing line. The two were promoting his spring campaign. The minimalist photos, which featured the two models and a mirror, highlight Lagerfeld’s unique style of photography. Lagerfield has also photographed Kroenig for Chanel Sport and Chanel.
On the Runway
Kroenig’s runway appearances have been few. He has walked for Chanel three times: in the fall of 207, in March of 2008, and in May of 2008.
Other Publications and Ad Campaigns While Kroenig has done very few runway appearances, he does do many photo shoots and print ads. He appeared in ads for D&G with Naomi Campbell in 2002. In 2003, he made his cover debut with an issue of V Man. The next year, he appeared in Numero Homme, Allure, and the Robert Cavalli spring campaign. In 2005, he was featured in Adidas ads, the DKNY fall campaign, and renewed his contract with Fendi. His next major campaign was in 2008 when he modelled for Gap.
Other Work
In addition to his print campaigns, Kroenig has appeared in a few short films. In 2007, he worked with Johan Renck in his film “Room Service.” He also appeared in Chanel’s 2008 film “The Silent Film.”
Personal Life In addition to modelling, Kroenig enjoys playing soccer and working in real estate. He is close friends with Tyson Ballou, Jeisa Chiminazzo, Irina Lazareanu, and Crystal Renn.
