Erin O’Connor stands at 1.83 metres tall and has hazel eyes and dark brown hair. Her hair, in fact, is one of her noted features. Erin is also known for her height, her symmetrical profile, and for the fact that she has a somewhat androgynous look. She is also known for refusing to model swimwear.
In 1996, O’Connor’s first photos were published in i-D by Juergen Teller. Her androgynous look was very unique at the time, and these photos have been noted for their difference and alternative type of beauty. In 1998, she was handpicked by Karl Lagerfeld to appear in a number of Chanel ads. That same year, she appeared on the cover of a number of magazines, including Italian Vogue and Dazed & Confused. Erin O’Connor also had appearances in Harper’s Bazaar and French Vogue.
O’Connor spent several years following these shots doing catwalk work and making some television appearances. However, she reappeared in print in 2002 on the cover of British Vogue. Her next major print appearance was in 2006 as a part of the Ellen Tracy fall ad campaign. Three years later, Erin appeared in an i-D editorial. In addition to these notable appearances, O’Conner has also appeared in Elle, W, Harpers & Queen, and Visionaire.
On the Runway
Erin O’Connor began her modelling career on the runway in February of 1997. She appeared in shows hosted by Chanel, Gucci, Donna Karan, and Fendi in New York, Paris, and Milan. In 1999, she appeared in the spring shows for Prada, Alessandro Dell’Acqua, Celine, and Yves Saint Laurent. Two years later, Erin modelled for Marni, Giorgio Armani, Valentino, and Alexander McQueen in shows in Paris and Milan. Her next runway appearance was for Valentino and for Christian Dior in 2005. She then took some time off from shows until July of 2009, when she modelled for Jean Paul Gaultier.
Moving from Model to Actress
In 2001, O’Connor appeared as herself on the show Absolutely Fabulous. This gave her a look at the acting world, and she soon began auditioning for television roles. She was cast as Laurie in the 2001 movie Born Champion, and then later played Margarite on Yard Sale. Erin O’Connor was featured in the documentary The Model Life along with a number of other British models, a move that introduced her to a broader audience. She later appeared in a series of ads for Marks and Spencer that was loosely based on the popular James Bond series. In 2009, she appeared as a judge on the Irish reality series The Model Agent.
While modelling and acting have been her main focus, O’Connor has also promoted several products. In 2000, she served as the spokeswoman for Jean Paul Gaultier’s fragrance Fragile. Later, in 2007, she and Helena Christensen launched the Model.Me line of hair care products.
Awards and Recognition
Erin O’Connor has won a number of different awards. In 1999, she was named Model of the Year at the Elle style awards. She was later named Best Dressed of the Week by Vogue for wearing a black gown by Vivienne Westwood. In 2006, O’Connor was named one of the U.K’s 40 wealthiest people under 20.
Erin has dated several high profile men, including John Kent, the producer of Sky News. The two dated from 2004 until 2006. The next year, rumours persisted that she and David Walliams, star of the comedy series Little Britain, were dating. She also previously dated television presenter Jamie Theakston.
In addition to her modelling and acting, O’Connor studied ballet for 11 years. In 2007, she began writing a fashion blog for Vogue.co.uk, a blog she continues to this day.
