| Christian Dior (1905 – 1957), was a famous French fashion designer. He was born in Granville, France. He attended Ecole des Sciences Politiques as his family wished he would become a diplomat, but Dior himself only dreamed to become an artist. After graduating from the political science school Christian convinced his father, obtaining enough money to open a small art gallery in Paris. |

The gallery walls were decorated with the likes of Pablo Picasso and Max Jacob, the family name remained unknown though. In the 1930s Dior made sketches for several Haute Couture Houses. Things went well and in 1938 he worked with Robert Piquet, later in 1945 he designed for Marcel Boussac, a man who loved working with fabric. Dior had a new idea that was using lots of layers of extravagant fabrics and Marcel promoted it. In two years a personal Christian Dior's first collection was a success. It was "Corolle Line". In 1949 Christian Dior established his Haute Couture fashion house; Christian Dior New York, Inc. The famous "New llook" was post World War II refreshing pens, much more voluptuous than the old style boxy shapes. It became a breakthrough in world fashion. |
