Early Life
Amber Valletta was born on 9 February 1974 in Phoenix, Arizona, in the United States.  The Valletta family moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, shortly after she was born, and she grew up in Tulsa.  When she was 15, her mother enrolled her in the Linda Layman Agency, a modeling school, and Valletta quickly grew to love the modelling industry.

On the Runway

Valletta has walked down the runway for a large number of designers.  One of her earliest shows was in 1993 when she walked in the Valentino show in Paris.  However, most of her work has been done off the runway.  In fact, she does mostly print campaigns and photo shoots, although she has opened and closed shows for Anna Sui, Versace, and Dior (appearing in their 60th anniversary collection).

In Print

Valletta’s photo credits are much longer than her runway work.  Her first work was promoting Calvin Klein’s fragrance Eternity.  Shortly after that, she became the face of Giorgio Armani.  That same year (1993), Valletta appeared on the covers of Vogue, Elle, and Harper’s Bazaar.  In 1994, she and then-husband Herve Le Bihan appeared in a Calvin Klein ad, and the next year, she was named the face of both Versace and Gucci.  She also appeared on the cover of Vogue again.  Over the next several years, she would appear on the covers of issues of Italian Vogue, British Vogue (three times in 1996), ads for Versace, and two more issues of Vogue (March and April of 1997).  In 1997, she was named the exclusive face of Elizabeth Arden.

She continued making appearances for huge names in 1998, including appearing in campaigns for Prada, Calvin Klein, Fendi, and Armani.  She landed the cover of British Vogue in July of 1998 and followed that with a cover of i-D in 1999.  She took some time off from modelling to focus on her acting career following this, and she wouldn’t do much modelling work until the late 2000s.  In 2008, she renewed her contract with Stella McCartney and appeared in W, British Vogue, Vogue, and POP.  She also became the face of Iceberg.  In 2009, Valletta was featured in two issues of Italian Vogue, an issue of Vogue, and an issue of V magazine, although the latter issue actually focused more on her acting.

Film Work

Valletta’s first film role was in the fashion film entitled Unzipped, in which she appeared as herself.  She became enamoured of the film world, and in 1996, she co-hosted House of Style on MTV.  In 2000, she appeared in Drop Back Ten, What Lies Beneath, and The Family Man.  She continued appearing in films throughout the year, including Hitch, Transporter 2, Premonition, and Days of Wrath.  Her next film, scheduled for 2010, is The Spy Next Door.  She will appear alongside stars Jackie Chan and Billy Ray Cyrus.

Personal Life

In 1994, Valletta married fellow male model Herve Le Bihan, but the two divorced in 1996.  She then dated actor Leonardo DiCaprio in 1998, although their relationship did not last that long.  In 2003, she began dating Christian McCaw, an Olympic volleyball player.  The two are still together as of 2009. They have one child together.

In 1999, she gave up drinking alcohol and has stayed sober.  However, in 2006, Valletta did go into rehab for issues related to stress and her self-image.  She entered The Meadow facility in Arizona, and she completed her stay there in August.  Valletta was a supporter of U.S. President Barack Obama in the 2008 election, and she appeared in a video endorsing him along with her son.

In 2009, Valletta launched her own line of clothing with the L.A. clothing company Monrow.  She has mostly retired from modelling to focus on this line, her acting, and on her family.
