Early Life
Born on 1 September 1981, Robert Boyd Holbrook is an American model, artist, and actor.  He was born in Prestonsburg, Kentucky.  He was first discovered while working a part-time carpenter job in a theatre in Kentucky.  He was approached by a woman from New York who enquired of him if he’s ever thought of moving to New York to be a model.  He signed with the agency Elite Models during 2001, but he has also worked for Wilhelmina, Bleu Model Management, Major, d’management group, and 2PM Model Management.

On the Runway

Holbrook made his runway debut at the fall Cloak show in 2002.  Following that, he walked for Calvin Klein and Dior Homme.  The next year, he again walked for Dior Homme as an exclusive in his Paris show.  He followed this up with appearances for Calvin Klien, Burberry, Gucci, and Fendi.  2004 saw Holbrook walking for Moschino, Robert Cavalli, Missoni, and Calvin Klein as well as D&G, Versus, and Marc Jacobs.

He didn’t walk in many major shows in 2005, but in 2006, he walked for Dolce & Gabbana, Alexander McQueen, Vivienne Westwood, and Gucci.  He left the runway for several years following this, and as of 2009, has not done many major shows.

In Print

While he may not have appeared on the runway as much lately, Holbrook has done many different print appearances.  He appeared in his first campaign for Bill Blass in 2002, and since then, he has been named the face of Dior Homme (2004), appeared in ads for Hugo Boss and Versus (2004), modelled for the 2005 Mavi Jeans catalog, and was named the face of Moschino for 2006.  In 2006, he also appeared in the Gap and Barneys catalogues.  2007 saw him become the face of Jean Paul Gaultier.  The next year, he was featured in the H&M holiday campaign and campaigns for Pepe Jeans and We Are Replay.  He is also the face of the Viktor and Rolf fragrance “Antidote.”

Holbrook has a number of editorial and cover credits to his name as well.  One of his earliest appearances was in a spring 2002 issue of Another Magazine.  He then appeared named for Italian Vogue.  Over the years, he has appeared in Self Service, L’Uomo Vogue, Numero, W (including the famous “Asexual Revolution” editorial), GQ, Dansk, Italian Flair, V, and i-D.

Other Activities

Holbrook has released a number of poems illustrated by Jamie Strachan on model-max.com.  He actually sent a screenplay through to Gus Van Sant the director in 2007, and Van Sant was suitably impressed that he offered Holbrook a role in the film Milk.  He also appeared in the Permanent Me music video which was for their song “Allison.”

In addition to acting, Holbrook has done photography for David Armstrong and done some sculpting.  He held his inaugural art show in the RARE gallery in Manhattan, in 2008.

Personal Life

Boyd had dated several famous models over the years.  One of the most famous is Omahyra Mota, and while the two were together, they posed naked together for a photo shoot.  In 2007, he and Julia Dunstall briefly dated.  Boyd is close friends and roommates with male model Jamie Strachan.

After modelling for several years, Holbrook raised enough money to study film at New York University.  He received his SCPS Certificate in 16mm Film.  He has also taken classes at Columbia University in film history and writing.  He studied acting at the William Esper Studio and completed the Meisner Program and the Shane Ann Younts Voice and Speech 2 Year Program.  From these classes, he has produced five short films.
