In 2006, the beautiful Chanel Iman won the third place in the supermodel contest for Ford Models. The then budding supermodel debuted a month later at the fall shows for Anna Sui, Marc Jacobs, Proenza Schouler, and Derek Lam in New York City –establishing her prominence as a rising star in the industry.
By September, Chanel Iman walked for the spring couture show for Alessandro Dell’Acqua in Milan. A month later she graced the runway for the spring Valentino couture show in the fashion mecca –Paris winking her way to the runway. Her hotness later on gained more popularity in her native USA and the New York Times wrote an article about the model entitled “A Model from Day 1” where the black Korean beauty tells her story about wanting to model since forever. She was later on featured as one of the rising stars of spring 2007 by Style.com
2007 was a busy year for the fashion model; she was photographed by Anni Leibowitz for Bottega Veneta and was later on interviewed in Vibe by supermodel Iman. After being interviewed by her namesake, she received the Trailblazer Award from the Sankofa Group and barely days later, the budding superstar, made an appearance in the very popular The Today Show alongside other contemporaries.
By May of 2007, Chanel Iman is featured on the cover the world’s leading fashion magazine –Vogue and was photographed by Steven Meisel. She named one of the next top supermodels of the world in May of 2007.
By September, the model is invited as a guest in the Tyra Banks Show along with her Korean mom. The three talked about the hardship experienced by African-American models. On that same month, Chanel Iman opens the spring couture shows for Charles Nolan, Heatherette, and Custo Barcelona in New York City. She also closed the spring JustSweet –a line by Jennifer Lopez and the spring show for Custo Barcelona.
By October, the New York Times explored the story of difficulties experienced by black models that although black women living in the US spend a bulk on clothes and apparel each year, black faces on the runway were almost always absent. In the international scene i.e. Paris and Milan, the couture shows rarely has black models in them –the shows were almost always white washed. Among the not so many girls who have gone to Europe is Chanel Iman Robinson –often the only black among the hurricane of blondes and brunettes.
By October of 2007, Ms. Robinson was named as one of the best dressed models of the week in Vogue, featuring her in a Zac Posen ensemble. A year later, Chanel Iman Robinson appeared in the ad campaign for the spring Ralph Lauren and Gap. She also appears in the editorial for Vogue that year and graces the runway for the spring couture shoes of Valentino, Jean Paul Gaultier, and Christian Dior.
By February of the same year she graced the cover of Teen Vogue along with Ali Michael and Karlie Kloss. The three towering beauties were photographed by the talented Patrick Demarchelier. The black Korean beauty later walked for Dolce & Gabbana, Bottega Veneta, Hermes, Christian Dior and Yves Saint Laurent for their fall shows in Paris and Milan.
By March, Ms. Robinson graces the editorial for i-D magazine for their ‘80s inspired editorial. A few days later she appeared in yet another editorial carrying Chanel bags. This beautiful lady was photographed by the talented KT Auleta for V magazine.
The magazine editorials sure love the black Korean beauty because by April of 2007, she again appeared in a magazine, this time in Allure and was photographed by the very talented Patrick Demarchelier.
By May of 2008 she escorts fashion designer Philip Lim to a gala, Miss Robinson was wearing one of Lim’s designs. By July she appeared in an editorial for Vogue along with Jourdan Dunn. The two fashion models were photographed by Mr. Norman Jean Roy.
She also walked for the fall shows for Jean Paul Gaultier and Christian Dior in July and later that month she appears in two editorials for Italian Vogue for its all-black issue.
2008 was a busy year for Chanel Iman because she also appeared in the fall ad campaign for DKNY with models Taylor Fuchs and Alana Zimmer.
Many photo shoots later, the beautiful Miss Robinson was featured on Korean Vogue and was later on the cover of the fall issue of Time magazine.
By September that year, she opened the Rock & Republic spring show in New York along with another runway project with Nathan Jenden in London, England.
Josh Olins later photographs Chanel Iman for Pop’s winter issue followed by Tom Munro who photographed the Black Asian beauty for Harper’s Bazaar editorial. By 2009 she appears in Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar yet again.
By January of 2009 Miss Robinson walked for the spring Christian Lacroix, Christian Dior, Valentino and Jean Paul Gaultier for their spring couture shows in Paris, France.
A month later, this sizzling hot beauty was featured on Vogue editorial followed by Italian Flair; she was photographed by the talented photographer David Sims followed by Magnus Unnar.
By March of the same year, she closed the fall show for Giambattista Valli in Paris and later on appeared in an editorial for V magazine, gracing the pages of V with her beauty.
By May she appears in another editorial for Vogue but it was slightly different because she appeared with rapper boyfriend Tyga. The two love birds were photographed by the very creative Patrick Demarchelier.
After that, and many pictorials later –Chanel Iman is once again on the runway. The projects keep on coming though and the peak of Miss Robinson’s success is yet to come.
