Heather Marks was discovered in a show in Calgary and won the model search for Mode at the early age of 12. Since then, Marks has marked her territory in the world of glitz and glamour by modeling for advertisements for prominent high-fashion designers such as Moschino, Calvin Klein and Dolce and Gabbana.
A Supermodel’s Journey
After her discovery in Mode Models through owner Kelly Streit in 1999, Marks modeled for different advertisements for different couture houses.
She debuted in 2003 in the Givenchy spring show in Paris, France and later that year came runway projects for Anna Sui, Louis Vuitton, Marni, Burberry, Chanel and Dries van Noten in Milan, Paris and New York.
By 2004, her rise as one of the faces to watch of the fashion world was marked by being the face of Moschino. January of that year, she walked in the runway for Anne Valerie Hash and for the house of Chanel. The best thing that happened that year though was when she did the last walk for Christian Lacroix’s spring collection in Paris, France. In the next month of the same year, Heather Marks opened the fall collection Marc by designer Marc Jacobs in New York City. She also ruled the runway for BCBG Max Azria, Helmut Lang, Zac Posen and Donna Karan.
2004 was a good year for the supermodel. Heather Marks appeared in Levi’s print ads and was photographed by Annie Leibowitz for Ann Taylor. She was also photographed for Dolce and Gabbana. By October of 2004, Heather Marks appeared in W with other models Lisa Cant and Caroline Trentini. Come 2005, Heather Marks signed for a contract to become the face for Anna Sui. The projects never stop coming for Marks, she opened the Christian Lacroix’s spring couture show and manages to walk for Chanel yet again. The beautiful Marks appeared both on Italian and German Vogue in June and July of 2005 respectively and later on graced Korean Vogue with a photograph with her friend Lisa Cant. Year 2006 –Heather Marks started it with a photo shoot for D&G taken by talented photographer Steven Klein. By May that same year she appeared in the editorial for Italian Flair. A month after that she signed a contract with cosmetics giant Revlon and by July she graced the cover for Elle Canada. Heather Marks’ first appearance as one of Victoria’s Secret angels was in November of 2006 and by year 2007 she returned as the official face for Anna Sui. Come to think of it, every year is a good year for Marks. In February 2007 she opened the fall collection of Dian von Furstenberg in New York. She also walked the runway for 3.1 Philip Lim, D&G, Rodarte, DSquared2, Viktor & Rolf and Ferregamo .

A Good Friend
Even when the young model ranked in the top 20 models in the world, she never forgot where she came from. When she was 16 and was already a modeling sensation at the time, she flew in to Calgary –her home – to help her friend and fellow Calgarian, designer Paul Hardy. Heather Marks walked the runway for the Toronto Fashion Week held at the Liberty Grand for Hardy’s 2005 fall collection. Marks enjoyed doing the show because as she said that time “Doing this show is a lot easier than in Europe. It’s not too stressful.” Heather Marks did not only enjoy the show but she was happy to be there for her friend Paul hardy.
The Toronto Fashion Week now more popularly known as the L’Oreal Fashion Week has been under fire in the past years because it never attracted supermodels or other big-name models even if most of the world’s top models come from Canada. 2005 was refreshing because of Heather Mark’s presence reminding Toronto of its other fashion talents.
Right after the show, Heather Marks flew in to New York for her Vogue photo shoot.
