Kate Somers’ debut was in February of 2008 where she opened the fall show for Vera Wang’s Lavender Label in New York City. On the same month, Somers walks for Marc Jacob’s Marc fashion show. February was a busy month for her going from Vera Wang’s backstage to walking for Etro, Daks by Giles Deacon, Gianfranco Ferre, Sportmax and Jil Sander for their Milan fashion shows.
She later opened the fall fashion show for Marithe Francois Girbaud in Paris, France and also walked the catwalk for Maison Martin Margiela and Christian Lacroix. Earlier that month she was featured in WWD as one of the fashion world’s rising star. And a rising star she is, she was even featured in models.com as one of the top 10 newcomers in the fashion world.
Kate Somers got some rest after that and went back to her work schedule by July of 2008 and appeared in the editorial of Teen Vogue and was photographed by talented photographer Horst Diekgerdes. This beautiful lady was later feature in Flare as one of the industry’s rising stars.
By September, she opens the spring Moschino Cheap & Chich and Antonio Marras shows in Milan. A month later, she walks for Alexander McQueen, Nina Ricci, Dris van Noten, Lanvin, Yohji Yamamoto, and Louis Vuitton shows in Paris, France.
She was also photographed by Mario Testino for Lord & Taylor’s print ads for fall alongside Carolyn Murphy and Lauren Hutton.
Her Christmas present for 2008 was to grace the cover of Dazed & Confused. The beautiful Somers was photographed by yet another talented photographer Daniel Sannwald.
By 2009 she signs a contract to become the new face of Les Copains and later joins the band of models for Lacoste.
The Essence of Kate Somers
Kate Somers is a graceful beauty. Gliding through New York for her first season in the catwalk, she found herself in the spotlight for designers like Vera Wang, Philip Lim, and Marc Jacobs. It is pure delight to see this strawberry blonde girl walking the runway. She is breathtakingly pretty and tantalizingly thin. With her delicate and slim proportions she is the epitome of elegance and perfection.
The beautiful Kate Somers is likened to glamorous move star Audrey Hepburn, like Hepburn, Somers’ delicate thinness contributes to her beauty –both graceful and lovely.
Kate Somers is not just a pretty face. Since bagging the runner up award for the most coveted 2007 Ford Supermodel of the World contest, Kate Somers reached new heights enchanting almost everyone along the way. Modeling as Kate says is not just about looks, modeling is also about personality. The media absolutely loves this beautiful girl and describe her as a sweetheart and is as charming as her looks.
In her hometown, Kate usually goes about in the backstage of L’Oreal hugging, thanking and chatting with everybody she works with.
The Busy Schedule
Kate Somers is a busy girl. Her first season started in the first month of the year when she had to fly to New York City for the castings for Mercedes Benz. A few weeks after that and more fashion shows later, Miss Somers was included in the Top 10 newcomers of the year.
Not willing to be slowed down, Miss Somers flew from New York to Milan for a photo shoot for Gianfranco Ferre’s collection, rocking the runways along the way.
The Canadian model proved herself in Italy so she went ahead and tried France, she said in an excited tone, “With this industry, everything is last minute and you never know, I was waiting to get on a plane back to Canada when we had to switch the flight and go to Paris.” During that time, Miss Somers was still in high school and she was gone for two months to do her shows.
School and Studying
It is understandable that Kate Somers’ modeling career is taking precedence in her life. She does not mind this though, she said once in an interview with Vervegirl that “I’ve always been a very busy erson with 10 things going on at once, so this is just one more thing to add to the schedule, and I like it that way.”
She however does not lose her way because her assignments are sent through correspondence. And could you imagine that by the time she went back home she was ahead of her class, well at least one day ahead –but that is still a reflection of Somers’ discipline. She sure does work very hard.
When asked who inspires her in the modeling industry, she said, “Coco Rocha. She’s really beautiful, and uses that in a unique way to express every photograph differently. I love looking at her work.” The two models first met at the airport in Milan and then met again in a fashion show for Christian Lacroix in Paris. Somers recalls, “She was so nice, which really helped me. The girls in this industry, they’re like a bunch of big sisters. They’re nice and considerate if you’re a new girl and I really appreciated that.”
Not to worry though, the great Miss Somers will surely take that big sister status soon and teach other newcomers what she learned when she was still starting.
Somers believes that a person does not have to be a high profile celebrity to be an inspiration. As down to earth as she is, she said “I think anyone can be a role model if they’ve accomplished something in their life…you can choose to give back and become a role model.”
Living the Moment
Miss Somers take time to enjoy the moments of her life. She said, “I’m not sure if I have one experience that stands out for me because I try to live in the moment and enjoy every experience.” Miss Somers does say that her travels are a source of enrichment and always a learning experience.
“I’ve been able to travel to Japan and Europe and New York, immersing myself in the cultures, then coming home and having a normal everyday life. But being able to look back and think ‘What have I done this year? Well, I’ve travelled, had new experiences…’ that’s what I love being able to do, is to look back and say I’ve accomplished something new and completely different.”
